What to wear for a photoshoot?

You have decided to book a photoshoot, and now it’s time to decide what to wear! It may seem like there are an infinite amount of things to consider, so let’s narrow it down. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with what you are wearing because this will help you feel more confident.

Depending on the location of your shoot, you should consider the background. The colors should contrast to help you stand out more. Your photographer can give you more details on the backgrounds of the areas you will be shooting in. If your background is colorful, you may want to pick a neutral for contrast. In fact, neutrals will likely be a good choice at any time of day. If you want a visual guide, check out the color wheel and choose complementary colors. For example, if your background is green, then choose the opposite, which is a warm color.

What about patterns? Avoid small patterns, and instead, opt for solid colors. If you would like to use a pattern, consider larger ones.

Accessories are always a good idea if this is your first time in front of the camera. Sunglasses, your favorite book, a hat, etc. help you relax and look more natural.

If your skin tends to be shiny, I recommend using a matte powder, oil-free tissues, or regular tissues, particularly for night photoshoots using artificial light. For night photoshoots, it’s best to avoid wearing black.

When shooting outside, make sure to bring a hairbrush with you.

For couples or group sessions, wear something in common, for example, a white dress and a white shirt.

Chewing gum during the shoot is not recommended.

Most importantly, bring a big smile because this is your best accessory. Having fun in a photoshoot creates the best photos.
